چکیده

Most everyday scenes have a far greater dynamic range than can be recorded on a photographic lm or electronic imaging apparatus (whether it be a digital still camera, video, etc.). However, a set of pictures, that are identical except for their exposure , collectively show us much more dynamic range than any single picture. The dark pictures show us highlight details of the scene that would be washed out in a \properly exposed" picture, while the light pictures show us some shadow detail that would also not appear in a \properly exposed" picture. We propose a means of combining diierently exposed pictures to obtain a single picture of extended dynamic range, and improved color delity. Given a set of digital pictures, we may produce a single picture which is, for all practical purposes, `undig-ital', in the sense that it is a oating point image, with the kind of dynamic range we are accustomed to seeing in typical oating point representations, as opposed to the integer images from which it was generated. The method is completely automatic; it requires no human intervention, and it requires no knowledge of the response function of the imaging device. It works reliably with images from a digital camera of unknown response, or from a scanner with unknown response, scanning an unknown lm type.

High dynamic range imaging for digital still camera: an overview

We present a collection of methods and algorithms able to deal with high dynamic ranges of real pictures acquired by digital engines e.g., charge-coupled device (CCD/CMOS) cameras. An accurate image acquisition can be challenging under difficult light conditions. A few techniques that overcome dynamic range limitations problems are reported. The presented methods allow the recovery of the origi...

Mountable Dynamic Range Enhancer for Digital Cameras

We designed and implemented an innovative dynamic range enhancing device that can be mounted on digital cameras and allows photographers to obtain a high dynamic range photo in single shot without post-processing. A liquid-crystal array is programmed to spatially modulate incident light and optically tone-map the camera module for dynamic range enhancement, preserving the high-light details tha...

Perspectives on Panoramic Photography

Digital imaging brings a new set of possibilities to photography. For example, little pictures can be assembled to form a large panorama, and digital cameras are trying to mimic the human visual system to produce better pictures. This manuscript aims at developing the algorithms required to stitch a set of pictures together to obtain a bigger and better image. This thesis explores three importa...

Extending the Radar Dynamic Range using Adaptive Pulse Compression

The matched filter in the radar receiver is only adapted to the transmitted signal version and its output will be wasted due to non-matching with the received signal from the environment. The sidelobes amplitude of the matched filter output in pulse compression radars are dependent on the transmitted coded waveforms that extended as much as the length of the code on both sides of the target loc...
